This cake was a challenge in a whole new way - Sugar Flames!! It took a few tries to get it the way I wanted but I love how this turned out. Its more rustic than some of my recent cakes but it was fun to figure out how to recreate the coals, logs and flames all out of edibles.
Oh, and I have to admit toasting marshmallows over your ceramic stove-top while ignoring the incredulous looks being sent your way by your hubby is almost as fun toasting them over an open fire :)

Watering Can Cake
I got a call last week from someone who works with my husband. He wanted a 'thoughtfully themed' cake for his wife on their 10th anniversary.
This was a RUSH job and I was nervous about doing this cake justice. I think however that it turned out really well - charming is the word that comes to mind :) Hope you agree!

Tardis Cake
So I had an email a few weeks ago from a visitor to my blog (it works!, it works! lol) This lovely gal wanted me to create a Tardis cake for her boyfriend's birthday as he is a big fan of the show "Dr. Who". Having a son who is also a big fan of the show - I knew EXACTLY what she was talking about :)
The biggest challenge of this cake was the proportions and clean lines. I'm learning that my strong suit is 'eye-balling', 'winging it', and being 'artistic'. Clean lines and exact measurements are CHALLENGING in SUGAR, LOL! My husband, the engineer, thinks this is a character deficit but I just tell him - this is why I married YOU - so you can do all the math. Hahaha.
Back to the cake :)
This is a rich Devils Food cake with a butter-cream and strawberry layer. I was worried that I wasn't being heavy handed enough with the coloring to find that rich dark blue of the Tardis - but it 'aged' PERFECTLY.
Enjoy!

Flowers flowers flowers!
The past couple of weeks have been CRAZY! I've had tons of cakes to do AND it also happens to be my 18th anniversary this week. We also had a community potluck / BBQ that I wanted to bring a great cake to.
I have been practising my sugar arts and learning new flower techniques - I decided to bring those together in this lovely cake. Enjoy!

Freightliner Truck Cake!
This cake was Massive. BIG. It took three of us to move it and set it up! And sadly one of the rear-view lights (or ears as I affectionately called them) got bent in transport - nothing I could really do but try and bent it back on site- it looks a little crooked in the photos though. I did this cake as a favour to my dear Hubby as his department of engineers was having a picnic.
Specifically this cake is a representation of the Freightliner "Cascadia" model. Which I guess is important if you are an Engineer :) For me - having my hubby on hand to figure out the correct scale/dimensions was very helpful!!
I was really nervous about this one - and wish I had had a bit more time for detailing - but overall it was a Big success!

Tigers and Coffee and Motorcyles - oh my!
I had a cake order with some pretty specific requests this week. For the owners of a local coffee shop (Paper Tiger's Coffee in Vancouver WA) as a surprize for their wedding anniversary given by friends and business associates.
Very cool - but tricky! It had to reference their business (Paper Tiger), coffee, and motorcycles as the owner is an avid rider. Also their friends requested hearts incorporated somehow.
I wasn't exactly sure how to tackle this - but I think it actually came out really fun! Whaddya you think?
