Awards Night Cakes!

As much as I love doing cakes - my one true love is the theater.  So whenever I'm not on here for more than a week or two - it's a good bet it's because I've been busy with some kind of theatrical endeavour.

One of the companies that I have done quite a few shows with in the past contacted me to come up with some themed cakes for their annual awards show. What a fun way to bring my two loves together!

These cakes were 'inspired' by a seasons worth of shows and I used the posters for each show as a reference.  Most of these photos were taken on my kitchen table - but there are a few snapped in the theater before the event - and you may be able to see some of my inspiration hanging on the wall behind the cakes - see if you can find them!

Christmas OWL cake

I did several cakes this December - including THREE cakes for my annual Christmas Eve Party.  Sadly, I was so busy with the party - that I FORGOT to take any pictures of my cakes! Seriously, not even one :(

What a bummer!  I did, however, get pictures of this OWL themed Christmas cake.  I did this cake for a seniors Luncheon - they go by O.W.L.S - older, wiser, learning, seniors.  Cute, huh?

This is what I came up with.  I had a lot of fun making this cake - I love the way the tree branches turned out and I had an absolute blast coming up with my owls. Enjoy!

Sweet sixteen Minnie Cake!

Sweet sixteen!  Here's a cake I came up with for a sweet sixteen birthday party.  The lady of the day is a fan of this little mouse and wanted a great cake to help celebrate her day.

Like most of my cakes - everything on this cake is edible!  It would be easier (and less time consuming) to use prop pieces for some of the trickier bits - like the ears but I think it's important and more FUN for the whole cake be edible!

What do you think?

Groovy Baby, Yeah!

So I recently was in a production of Godspell.  For our opening night I donated this fabulous cake for a raffle prize.  It was absolutely a blast to make.  Tye-dyed fondant is so FUN to make!

I meant to snap a few more pics of this cake on location but it didn't happen.  Here are a few pics I did manage to get at home before l took it in :)

Theater / Drama Masks Cake

As promised, I am taking some time to update my blog!  October was an absolute whirlwind - and I'm looking forward to some more quiet evenings at home decorating some yummy cakes!

Here is one I did for a friend's birthday.  This friend has been in the theater for many years and his wife wanted to celebrate that.  She did this amazing collage of all the shows he had been in over the years and commissioned me to make a theatrical cake.

I have 'walked the boards' with this friend over the years and was tickled to be able to help make his night fun!

I used an edible 'spray paint' to achieve the gold and silver and marbled the fondant to create the wood effects for the floorboards. The masks were handmade out of fondant and the curtains are a fondant drape.  I absolutely love how this cake turned out!!

Autumn Cake

Apples and pumpkins and gourds - oh my!  I LOVE, love fall - its such a colorful and refreshing time of year.

A lady from church called and wanted a cake for a friendly fall get together.  This cake is Chocolate, with chocolate buttercream, chocolate Ganache filling and chocolate fondant!  Perfect for a fall morning coffee with friends!

All the decorations on this cake are edible - and made by me!  I love how this turned out :)
